I agree entirely. My heating engineer has assured me that the Grant Vortex Combi 26 is normally a very reliable unit, and that we have just had bad luck, but I can only judge by my own experience, which has been dreadful. I reckon we have experienced a minimum of two major breakdowns per year since installation in 2007. I am currently experiencing my second of the year, and it is still only March. Multiple leaks, pump failures, two split expansion vessels, mysterious cut-outs, pipework out of tolerance, failed electronic controls, unhelpful fault-finding in the manual. Also, the water to the tap is too hot, and apparently can not be adjusted. I suspect Grant has a serious quality issue with these combi-boilers, and I happen to be their guinea pig to get them resolved. It replaced a Worcester Bosch unit which worked fine until it was retired when we decided to opt for an outdoor unit. Boy, am I regretting that decision now. If Grant wants to contact me to offer their apologies or offer me a full refund, I would welcome their approach. I feel that I deserve it. If you are thinking of buying one, seek advice from your local heating experts, but the advice from this amateur customer/user is to avoid it like the plague, or insist on a 5-year warranty for all parts and labour.

I have a Grant Vortex External Combi Boiler 26. On paper it looks good, but in practice I have found it extremely unreliable. Maybe I am just unlucky, but in the 4 years I have had it I have had 2 pumps and a condenser replace. In less than 3 years the pressure started to drop. Needed to put back every 2 weeks. Now it drops to zero within 12-24 hours. Grants have stated that I need a new boiler. If it is a manufactureing fault then it will be replaced free. Howver they have already told me that a manufacturing fault is most likely to be evident in the first year. Therefore it s corrison and not covered by guarantee. To add insult to injury they have quoted me for a new unit at £1,928 but using the older burner. You can by a complete new one for ££97 more. How come the actual manufacturer can sell you a whole new unit for less? The boiler and all the pipes and radiators were fittted by an Oftec acredited engineer and serviced regularily. So either the engineer has not done what he should have done or its just a shoody piece of junk? I am looking at Worcester Heatslave. Anybody got any views??

I've bought some pups in my time but the Grant Outdoor boiler is probably the worst piece of equipment I have ever purchased. It was fitted just 3 years ago and last week I spent £226 on having it serviced. It needed a new hose and a new pressure tank. This week the pressure cut out switch failed because of a leak, this in turn caused the water pump to burn out - so hot that the electrics melted. The engineer is trying to fix it now but, surprise surprise, Grant have no switches in stock! Yet another night freezing with no hot water and no heating. Looking for a new boiler? Grant yourself a favour and look elsewhere!
